Auanja Thompson
Emergency Medicine Program Coordinator
Auanja Thompson is the latest addition to the Highland Emergency Department team, replacing Gwen Simmons, our program coordinator for the previous 20+ years! Auanja comes with training as a medical assistant, and prior to assuming her role as the Emergency Medicine Program Coordinator, Auanja worked with the Kaiser Corporation for 12 years as an assistant in their Chronic Conditions Program. She is responsible for the daily operations of residency administration, is a tremendous resource for residents, and coordinates the interview and admissions process.

Jackie Alberto
Medical Student Education Coordinator
Jackie has worked for Alameda County for 23 years, 17 of those with our department. She creates and efficient and enriching educational experience for the approximately 100 students that rotate with us each year, and she coordinates our monthly Journal Club events.

Carol DaSilva
Emergency Ultrasound Coordinator
Emergency Department Medical Director Assistant
Carol has been with Alameda County for 25 years, mostly as the Educator and Program Specialist for HIV services; she joined our administrative staff in 2007, helping coordinate and contributing to conference multimedia, ultrasound video review, website management, emergency department process support, volunteer program, and quality assurance efforts.

Mid-Level Providers

Our department’s medical provider staff boasts an unparalleled group of PA and NP’s. Our mid-level providers (MLP’s) take primary responsibility for medical and forensic evaluation of all victims of sexual assault. Highland has an affiliation with Samuel Merritt University’s Physician Assistant Program, creating an educational program and clinical rotation for PA students. In addition to working with residents and attendings in the ED, our MLP’s are heavily involved in the ED’s screening and rapid evaluation program and provide coverage throughout the entire department when residents have protected time for conferences, journal clubs, retreats, or other residency functions.
