More Awards!

Naomi Adler, MD was chosen for the Knowledge to Action Fellowship for 2013. This fellowship supports the resident's participation in QA/QI training and teaching with the focus on improving patient care and hospital systems. This fellowship is sponsored by the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Emergency Medicine Residents Association, and the New York Academy of Medicine. Naomi was one of only three US senior residents chosen from across the nation. She is also one of our incoming chief residents for 2013 and 2014. More info about the fellowship:

Jennifer Starling, MD was chosen for two awards:
Matthew Ryan Curley MD Wilderness Medicine Scholarship to attend the Wilderness Medical Society Conference in Breckenridge this July.  This award is given by the St Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital/Columbia University Emergency Medicine Residency in memory of one of their residents who was lost at sea on vacation in 2010. Matt Curley was a beloved member of their program with a strong interest in wilderness medicine and great love of the outdoors. This scholarship is aimed at supporting a resident in their career focus on wilderness medicine. Hearing about Dr Curley from the program director at St Lukes Roosevelt, we are incredibly proud and honored that Jen received this award.

Dr Starling was also accepted for the Himalayan Rescue Associations Wilderness Medicine Fellowship position at the Pheriche clinic in Nepal for Sept-Dec of 2014 season. Info about the Himlayan Rescue Association:

Jen will be graduating from Highland this summer, and will begin a Wilderness Medicine Fellowship at the Denver Health Emergency Medicine Residency in Denver. CO.


Nick Gavin, MD received the EMRA scholarship to attend the Emergency Department Directors Academy. The purpose scholarship is to provide opportunities for resident leaders and future leaders to attend the Emergency Department Directors Academy and help those residents develop leadership skills that will advance their careers, their local emergency departments, and the specialty of Emergency Medicine. He will be honored at the EMRA Spring Awards Reception at SAEM in Atlanta, GA on May 17th. Nick will also be graduating from Highland this year, having served as chief resident, and is taking a fulltime faculty position in the Dept of Emergency Medicine at NYU/Bellevue in New York, NY.
